The Trout House was taken over by Live Rooms Residents Joan the Wad and Thought Universe.
Joan the Wad creates intricate alt-pop songs, infused with synths, loops and beats, taking inspiration from classic singer songwriters, classical music and true pop. Rich, mellifluous vocals flavour these melodic bittersweet songs about love and hope.
Joan the Wad is the alias of singer, songwriter and producer Sarah Grundy, from Rossendale near Manchester. They create intricate alt-pop songs, infused with synths, loops and beats, taking inspiration from classic singer songwriters, classical music and true pop. Rich, mellifluous vocals flavour these melodic bittersweet songs about love and hope. This psychedelic pop solo project evolved from early work with a band and producer Martin Coogan (the Mock Turtles) gigging around Manchester pre-pandemic, receiving play on 6Music and piquing interest from BBC Introducing.
Thought Universe is a solo music project by Dr Mark Pilkington, a composer and performer of electroacoustic music. Emerging from the underground electronic music scene of Manchester in the North West of England in the 1990’s. The music reflects the emotion and energy of the electronic sounds using analogue and digital synthesizers. A Thought Universe performance embodies the physicality of sound matched through bodily movement. Lightning keyboard skills set an intensity that is both captivating and exhilarating.
