Agathe de Bailliencourt

Berlin-based artist Agathe de Bailliencourt was artist in residence in the Room to Live exhibition.

Agathe used the residency as an opportunity to explore the relationship between the two projects in ROOMS TO LIVE, how the space between these operates like a shift in focus, as a physical and emotional split. She made a series of unique works using ink on large-scale aquarelle paper.

The recording of time is a constant theme in Agathe's practice. Since 2017, the problem of registering the present has been addressed more specifically as questions of acceleration, collapse and changes of state.
Her most recent work has been a series of ‘Split Focus’ ink drawings which refer to the split focus diopter glass lens in cinema, which creates a special effect of two different depths of fields.

Two mixed-tape cassettes produced by Agathe, ‘Radio Dice’ (3hrs, 15mins, 2021) and ‘Madonna, Sean and Me’ (1hr, 36 mins, 2021) were also included in the Vanda Chan Archive in the gallery.
