Redell Olsen

Redell Olsen took over the Trout House Replica for the performance ‘FROWNLAND, LIKE IT’S 1969’.

The performance offers a chorus of speculative fragmentary imaginings to recast the legendary narratives of the making of the TROUT MASK album alongside interruptions drawn from the erased history of female drummers, nostalgic imaginings for futures that never were and cacophonies of protest relevant for our present-day FROWNLANDS.
Redell Olsen is a writer and visual artist whose work includes poetry, performance and film. Her books include Weather, Whether Radar: Plume of the Volants (2021), Film Poems (Les Figues, 2014), 'Punk Faun: a bar rock pastel' (Subpress, 2012) and 'Secure Portable Space' (Reality Street, 2004 ). In 2018, her film, Now Circa (1918) was shortlisted for the AHRC Research in Film Awards. In 2020-21 she was the recipient of the DARE Art prize.

A mixed-tape cassette produced by Redell,‘Who Sails The Oceans?’ (75.43 mins, 2021) was also included in the Vanda Chan Archive in the gallery.
